Sporting CP are prepared to receive an offer for Rúben Amorim this summer, who is now the frontrunner to succeed Jürgen Klopp at the end of the season.
That’s according to The Times, which reports that the club is already looking at Bayern Munich coach Anthony Barry, who is from Liverpool, as Amorim’s successor.
It is believed that Amorim could be signed for his release clause fee of £8m, providing the Reds a strong alternative after news of Xabi Alonso’s decision to remain at Bayer Leverkusen forced a twist in the Liverpool next manager latest.
He would appear to be a strong candidate for the role and given Sporting is already looking for alternatives, he might well be on the move. That would seem like a hint that a Liverpool boost could be coming.
There were immediate questions over whether Xabi Alonso would leave Bayer Leverkusen when he was linked, but it looks as though Sporting CP is effectively resigned to losing Amorim this summer.
His style is a better fit for some players in the Liverpool squad. Mohamed Salah and Luis Díáz are two in particular that could shine in his system.
Amorim is aiming to win the double before leaving the club this summer. And he is also on the radar of Barcelona according to Correio da Manhã (as translated by Sport Witness).
He is reported to be planning to make his final decision at the end of the season, with a focus on building on his successful campaign so far.
Sporting are currently top of the league table by a point with a game in hand, and they are also in the final of the Taça de Portugal after beating Benfica over two legs.
