F1 superstars Max Verstappen and George Russell have come up with ways to make the Monaco Grand Prix less ‘boring’.
Although it is steeped in history and prestige, the Monaco Grand Prix has often been criticised due to its lack of race action and excitement.
The Circuit de Monaco has built up a reputation for being extremely difficult to overtake and on Sunday, a frustrated Verstappen started and finished in sixth place as he delivered an X-rated team radio message during the 78-lap race.
He said: “F**k me, this is boring. Should’ve brought my pillow.”
Speaking after the race alongside Mercedes driver Russell, Verstappen said: “I think George and I will go for a run now because we didn’t really have any exercise. My God that was terrible, so boring.”
Russell agreed: “We need to do something, they need to change something for Sunday, mandatory pit stops.”
Verstappen replied: “Like five(stops) or something. Mandatory nap? I don’t know.”
Russell then suggested: “One lap on foot?”
After the reporter said a toilet break, Verstappen replied: “I needed to go to the toilet, it was bad, I went luckily so it’s all good.”
Reacting on social media, one fan said: “Max really said he should’ve brought his pillow with him cuz the race was boring.”
Another tweeted: “One lap on foot lmao.”
A third fan added: “And people say this is a serious sport.”
Someone else wrote: “Max embracing the Vettel side of him with the comedy.”
A fifth commented: “You can save Monaco by listening to them F1 and get them a comedy show asap as well.”
In an interview with Sky Sports, Verstappen said: “We just finished where we started. The strategy got ruined in the red flag.
“From Lap One on the restart it was driving four seconds off the pace and chill. No work out whatsoever. Just really, really boring.”
F1 returns in two weeks’ time with the Canadian Grand Prix, which will take place around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on June 9.
