Ex-Liverpool star brutally singles out England player they ‘can’t win anything’ with

Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has vehemently singled out the England player he feels could cost the Three Lions at the European Championship that is currently ongoing.

Gareth Southgate’s side beat Serbia 1-0 in their opening game of the competition Sunday evening, with the goal coming from Jude Bellingham.

But while England is among the favorites to win the tournament in Germany, Hamann believes that Jordan Pickford could let his side down.

The Everton goalkeeper has made the number one position his own in recent years, playing all 19 competitive matches at tournaments that Southgate has been in charge for.

“My worry would be Jordan Pickford,” Hamann said speaking on the ‘In The Zone’ podcast.

“He’s a good keeper, but I think his temperament lets him down at times.

“In a tournament when you might play seven games, there will be setbacks. You need a keeper who calms his teammates down. I think Pickford does the opposite and this is where I’ve got my worries and question marks. I don’t think England win a big title with Pickford.”

England’s defense is the area that has been most questioned heading into the tournament. Kieran Trippier is set to play at left-back while Kyle Walker will be on the opposite flank.

Liverpool’s Joe Gomez is a center-back option but Southgate is expected to pick John Stones and Marc Guehi at the heart of his back four with Harry Maguire out injured.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, will partner Declan Rice in the middle of midfield, behind an exciting front four of Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Harry Kane.

The Liverpool number 66 will wear the number eight on his back and is expected to line up with Rice as a double pivot where his passing range could help England break down packed defenses.
