Leny Yoro, the 18-year-old French defensive prodigy from Lille, is the most sought-after young defender in Europe currently.
Several European giants are eyeing a transfer for the France U-23 international this summer. Some of the clubs are Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester United and others.
Amongst these clubs, the Merseyside giants are also interested in signing the youngster. Even though the chances of the Reds acquiring him are very slim, there is still some hope left.
Reporting via his Twitter account, Fabrizio Romano provided some hope for the Kopites.
“Real Madrid remain the favorite destination of Leny Yoro, waiting for club’s decision on whether they want to proceed with the deal or not.
“Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain remain very active in talks for Yoro.
“PSG are not giving up, as well as Liverpool and Man United.” Romano’s tweet stated.
The departure of Joel Matip at the end of this season has created a hole in the defensive line for the Reds.
As the frequently-injured Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez or inexperienced Jarell Quansah might not be available all the time, skipper Virgil van Dijk might often be stranded in the backline without the right companion.
Considering those scenarios, Yoro will be crucial to Arne Slot’s new LFC set-up. Amassing a total of 37 appearances across all competitions for Lille, the young defender averaged 1.1 tackles and 1.1 interceptions in the 2023-24 season.
His impressive performances have showcased that he is capable of playing on an even bigger stage if he gets the right opportunity.
Although Yoro’s pricetag of €50m set by Lille can be a concern for the Merseyside club, they should keep his age in mind and consider how many years he will be able to perform in the Reds outfit if he joins.
