The summer break of George Russell started with a heartbreak. The British driver had the winners trophy in his hand – his second in four races – and had already tasted the sweet champagne when the FIA investigated his Mercedes car for being underweight.
He was disqualified from the Belgian Grand Prix. But nearly two weeks on, Russell is recovering, relaxing and having a romantic time with his girlfriend Carmen Montero Mundt.
On Instagram, his girlfriend shared some more snaps of the couple on holiday with friends. In the videos and pictures, the couple can be seen exploring Mallorca, enjoying thrilling activities in the sea, eating at nice restaurants, and relaxing on the boat with friends.
Towards the end of the showcase, Carmen Montero Mundt shared a video where she cuddles and kisses Russell in the sunshine. She asked her followers to “rate your favourite”.
Russell had victory snatched away from him and the driver himself branded it as a heartbreak on social media. But there’s the bigger picture within Formula 1.
For the first time since Russell arrived at Mercedes, the team are consistently competitive at a range of different circuits around the world. So much so in Belgium, where the team got to keep the win because Lewis Hamilton crossed the finish line in second.
It means Mercedes have won three of the last four races. Perhaps they haven’t been tipped as favourites like Red Bull and McLaren, but Russell’s team are making the most of the situations presented to them.
The loss of World Championship points also hurts Russell, but the best he can really hope for is second or third, anyway. In the constructors’ championship, they have a mountain to climb in the remaining 10 Grands Prix, so the positive performance is likely to outweigh the negatives of Belgium in the long term.
