Kevin Durant Makes Heartfelt Statement Regarding Patriotism

“It’s not great, but it could be worse,” a saying usually used in retorts to someone complaining or sharing a grievance. However, it’s also an adage regarding American politics.

While many citizens of the USA believe our nation’s political system is broken, it could be worse. Kevin Durant, sounding like your uncle or aunt during the holidays, made a similar statement following the victory over Serbia.

“A lot of bullsh*t happens in our country. But a lot of great things happen, too.” Durant said after Team USA’s momentous 17-point comeback victory over Serbia.

Great things, including a team loaded with All-Star NBA players, leaving their egos at the door as they persevered for something bigger than them. Moreover, traveling the world to play a sport is another great aspect of the United States.

During a divided time in the US, Durant’s commentary helped cushion an otherwise chaotic and highly venomous time in the nation. Furthermore, Team USA provides cheer for fans in less-than-ideal dilemmas, allowing them to forget about their troubles for a few hours and root for a team loaded with their favorite players.

The bullsh*t is another story. Unfortunately, many undone political policies will take years to fix, but the US has redeeming qualities.

The fact that people have the privilege to travel the world competing in a sport, representing their countries more lightly instead of having to travel under more stressful circumstances, like the military men and women who genuinely offer the most precious form of sacrifice.

Durant is right; there are a lot of great things to happen in this country, and Team USA’s winning gold will add to the list.
