Former Warriors Guard Deletes Tweet Involving Stephen Curry

D’Angelo Russell’s off-court behavior, rightfully so or not, cost him opportunities during his early years in the NBA. However, since rejoining the Los Angeles Lakers under LeBron James’s leadership, Russell hasn’t hit a snag regarding controversy.

However, social media is the common denominator of biting off more than one can chew—a recent tweet exposed regret in Russell, involving his former Golden State Warriors teammate, Stephen Curry.

Russell’s insertion into the roster occurred in a bittersweet acquisition. 2019, following the heartbreaking NBA Finals loss to the Toronto Raptors, Kevin Durant decided his time with the Warriors had run its course and requested a sign-and-trade with the Brooklyn Nets. In exchange, Durant essentially gifted the Warriors a parting gift in 2019 All-Star Russell.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, Russell’s 2019-20 campaign didn’t go as planned. The guard didn’t mesh with the system, and the Warriors missed the playoffs for the first time since 2012.

The aforementioned failed experiment brings us back to Russell’s tweet before instantly regretting it. An X user (formerly known as Twitter) tweeted, “You guys realize Dlo gets hot like Curry did yesterday? Or should we just ignore the facts?”

The tweet referred to Curry’s performance in the gold medal game vs. France, where he recorded eight three-point shots; Russell quote-tweeted it and responded with, “I humbly agree.”

While Russell’s tweet technically said nothing disrespectful of Curry and included a three-word response, the Lakers guard deemed it necessary to delete the post. Perhaps Russell doesn’t want to feel the same wrath France felt in the gold medal game.
