The long-awaited moment when LeBron James and his son Bronny shared the court during a regular season game occurred on Tuesday, when the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 110-103.
With that bucket list item out of the way, the expectation is that the younger James will soon be sent down to the G League so that he can work on honing his skills and developing his confidence away from the electron microscope that is the big-league Lakers.
It looks like he will be heading there very soon.
Via ESPN: “Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James is expected to travel on the team’s upcoming road trip from Oct. 28-Nov. 6 and then begin shuttling between the active roster and the franchise’s South Bay G League affiliate, sources told ESPN on Friday,” wrote Shams Charania and Dave McMenamin.
The Lakers have a new emphasis on player development, and they seem to have a coherent system in place to hone the abilities of young players. Shortly after hiring new head coach JJ Redick, they brought in a player development staff, and part of the plan is to have their G League squad be in sync with the big-league Lakers.
The younger James was the No. 55 pick in June’s draft. He struggled last season in his lone go-around at the University of Southern California, but his offseason training regimen was seriously disrupted by his cardiac arrest episode in the summer of 2023.
