CURRY’S WAKE-UP CALL: Warriors Star Delivers Blunt Message to Teammates

The Golden State Warriors are 10-2 to start the NBA season. Steve Kerr’s team is now ranked fourth in offensive, defensive, and net ratings, making it one of the most well-balanced rosters in the league. Golden State Warriors fans are already dreaming of a lengthy postseason run, with some hoping to see Curry return to the NBA Finals.

Curry spoke to ESPN’s Sports Center after Golden State’s victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, Nov. 15, and was careful to keep everyone’s expectations in control. He pointed out that the squad hadn’t done anything spectacular yet and that they needed to keep working and improving if they wanted to have a good season.

“You can give yourself confidence that you can hang with anybody in the league,” Curry said.

“That’s all we’re trying to do after these last two years, just get off to a better start, so we’re not chasing down the stretch of the season. But, we haven’t done anything yet. You don’t want to get too far ahead of yourself. We’re building a foundation and a new identity with this team. You want to be rewarded with winning while you’re building and you’re learning, so it’s a good start.”

With another 70 games remaining on the Warriors’ current regular-season schedule, they must continue to stay humble and put in the work. Anything can happen over the course of an NBA calendar, so it’s important the roster continues to stay grounded and takes things one game at a time.

Of course, the team’s hot start will have everybody excited about what this season could bring. Yet for the Warriors to find themselves back in the NBA Finals, they will need to tighten up some of their approach and figure out if they can sustain their current intensity with a shorter rotation. There are still a lot of lessons this version of the Warriors need to learn about themselves; thankfully, we will all be along for the ride.
