The Los Angeles Lakers have been reported to be exploring potential trades for two impactful centers, Robert Williams III of the Portland Trail Blazers and Jonas Valanciunas of the Washington Wizards, as per NBA insider Evan Sidery.
With their roster struggles mounting, particularly in the center position, the Lakers are actively seeking reinforcements ahead of the trade deadline.
The Lakers’ lack of depth at the center position has been a glaring issue all season. Anthony Davis, their All-NBA big man, has been carrying the majority of the workload in the paint.
However, the team has struggled to find a reliable backup to support him. Jaxson Hayes, who was signed in the offseason, has played only 11 of the team’s 25 games, while Christian Wood has yet to feature due to lingering fitness concerns. Rookie Christian Koloko has appeared in 15 games but has had minimal impact, averaging just 2.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in limited minutes.
This lack of depth has significantly impacted the Lakers’ performance. They currently sit at 13-12, having lost 8 of their last 11 games. Their offense has stagnated, and their defense has been exposed, especially against teams with dominant frontcourt players. This has prompted the front office to actively pursue a trade for a reliable center who can provide an immediate impact on both ends of the court.
Robert Williams III, nicknamed “The Time Lord,” is one of the Lakers’ primary targets. Known for his elite shot-blocking and rim-protection skills, Williams would bring much-needed defensive stability to the Lakers. He’s averaging 9.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.9 blocks per game this season, despite playing limited minutes due to Portland’s roster construction and a return from injury.
Williams’ athleticism and ability to guard multiple positions would complement Anthony Davis perfectly, creating a formidable defensive duo in the paint. However, his injury history is a concern, as he has struggled to stay consistently healthy throughout his career. If the Lakers pursue Williams, they’ll need to weigh his upside against the risk of potential absences.
Jonas Valanciunas offers a different skill set than Williams. The Wizards’ veteran center is a reliable scorer and rebounder, known for his physicality and ability to stretch the floor with his mid-range and three-point shooting. This season, Valanciunas is averaging 12.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while shooting 56.4% from the field.
Valanciunas would provide the Lakers with a more traditional big man who can dominate the boards and serve as a consistent offensive option in the post. His experience and durability make him an attractive target for a team looking to stabilize its rotation. However, his slower defensive foot speed could pose challenges in the Lakers’ fast-paced system.
Reports suggest that the Lakers have already offered a trade package for Valanciunas and are also engaged in talks with the Washington Wizards regarding potential moves.
As the Lakers sit precariously in the 10th seed in the Western Conference, their need for a game-changing move is urgent. Acquiring either Williams or Valanciunas would address their frontcourt depth issues and help alleviate some of the pressure on Anthony Davis. Whether they opt for Williams’ defensive prowess or Valanciunas’ offensive consistency, the Lakers’ decision could have a significant impact on their postseason hopes.
With the trade deadline looming, the Lakers will need to act swiftly and strategically to secure one of these big men. Their front office must find a balance between improving the current roster while preserving future flexibility to remain competitive in the long term.

Lakers Fans Delighted After LeBron James’ Return Helps Secure Win Against Grizzlies
The Los Angeles Lakers picked up an impressive 116-110 win over the No. 2 seed Memphis Grizzlies tonight, as LeBron James returned to the team after a short absence over the last 10 days.
The Grizzlies were on a four-game win streak before this matchup, which turned out to be a quality win for the Lakers to keep them in the hunt for a top-six seed.
Anthony Davis led the Lakers with a monstrous 40 points (15-22 FG) and 16 rebounds, while the returning LeBron put up 18 points (7-17 FG), eight rebounds, and eight assists in the win. Austin Reaves was the only other Laker to score over 10 points, as Reaves ended the night with 19 points (6-15 FG) and eight assists.
“LeBron is still a force to be reckoned with when he’s really bringing it,” said Jason Timpf regarding Bron’s aggressive start to the game.
“Lakers look like an actual basketball team with LeBron back,” said one fan as the Lakers dominated the No. 2 seed in the West.
“Okay so LeBron clearly just needed a mental break. This is the most engaged he’s looked since the Olympics,” said another fan explaining why he possibly took time away from the Lakers.
“Anthony Davis is a joy to watch play basketball,” said a fan extremely impressed with Davis’ dominant night.
“Lakers are at their best when they run everything through Anthony Davis,” said one fan promoting the Lakers style of play with Davis as their No. 1 option.
“Anthony Davis is so disrespected all the time. He’s a generational talent and isn’t treated as such,” said a fan wanting Davis to get his respect as one of the best in the league.
The Grizzlies couldn’t matchup on the night, being led by Jaren Jackson Jr. scoring 25 points (9-13 FG) before fouling out in the fourth quarter while Ja Morant had an inefficient 20 points (6-20). The pair were the only starters to score in double digits, with bench players like Zach Edey (13 PTS, 10 REB) and Luke Kennard (12 PTS) providing a late spark to try and keep them competitive, although it failed.
LeBron was away from the Lakers for the last nine days, missing three games in the process where the Lakers went 1-2. Their last performance without LeBron was tragic, as the team managed to score just 87 points as a whole against the Timberwolves, sorely missing LeBron’s on-ball creation to make Anthony Davis’ night easier.
LeBron can’t remain the No. 1 option but there’s no playmaker on the Lakers who even compares to him. He’s averaging 22.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 9.1 assists this season, with the Lakers having most of their success when James is embracing being pass-first and feeding players like Davis or Reaves on the perimeter, depending on if Reaves is shooting well or not.
James’ absence from the Lakers was mysterious but now that he’s back on the court, it seems the franchise will push forward and try to win as many games as possible. They have some really challenging fixtures to end the year, so they need stars like Dabis and Lebron to be healthy and available as they head into the new year with potential reinforcements coming via trade.

JJ Redick Makes LeBron James Statement After Lakers-Grizzlies
The Memphis Grizzlies traveled to Los Angeles for a one-game road trip to face the Lakers ahead of a four-game break. This game was the return of LeBron James, who missed the last two games due to personal reasons.
Looking to extend their win streak to five games heading into their Thursday night’s matchup against the Golden State Warriors, a 40-point performance by Lakers forward Anthony Davis helped the Lakers squeeze by with a narrow 116-110 win over the Grizzlies.
As for the Grizzlies, it was a poor overall offensive performance, despite 25 points from Jaren Jackson Jr. and 20 from Ja Morant, as they shot less than 40% from the field.
While Davis put up the flashy stats Sunday night, Lakers head coach JJ Redick shared some post-game remarks about James, who made his return to the team after two missed contests.
“He’s the best on our team with attention to detail and shifts,” Redick said about LeBron James post-game. With James missing the last two contests, tonight’s Lakers win seemed to have reminded Redick about how valuable James’ IQ is to the success of the team.
Statistically on the night, James finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists after missing the past two games due to injury management.
Now in his 22nd season in the NBA, James’ high basketball IQ only becomes more important to the team as he is no longer the consistent offensive threat he has been in years past.
As players like Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves continue to take strides in their careers, James is able to take a backseat and bring value in other ways on the court such as his attention to detail and defensive IQ.
