Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback for the New York Jets, is getting ready for the last game of the regular season against the Miami Dolphins as if it could be his final NFL game. “Yeah, for sure,” Rodgers replied when asked about the possibility.
The 2024 season was tough for both Rodgers and the Jets. The team hasn’t made it to the playoffs in 14 years and their record is 4-12. They also let go of their head coach and general manager. Rodgers seemed out of practice after getting hurt and couldn’t lead the team as well as people hoped when the Jets got him in 2023. He finished 63.0% of his passes, throwing for 3,623 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. This was just the fourth time in his 17 years as a starter that he had more than 10 interceptions.
When he was asked if he’s thinking about retiring, Rodgers said he wants to rest before deciding. He has thought about retiring a few times lately. “I need to take a break and make sure I’m fully rested before making a decision,” Rodgers said to reporters. Rodgers mentioned that he might not have a say in what happens with his NFL career.
He believes changes are coming, and if he’s involved, he wants everyone to know he’s thankful for his time so far. The Jets have a new leadership team for the upcoming season, so it’s unclear if they’ll want Rodgers as their quarterback in 2025.
Before, it was suggested that Rodgers and the Jets will probably part ways, because of his difficulties this season and tense relationship with owner Woody Johnson.

Aaron Rodgers achieves 500th touchdown pass in the New York Jets final game of the season
Former MVP Aaron Rodgers achieved his 500th touchdown in his 248th regular season game with a 5-yard scoring toss to tight end Tyler Conklin. The quarterback was surrounded by his teammates and trotted to the sideline holding the pigskin, one that he for sure will forever cherish.
Rodgers threw his first NFL touchdown pass to Greg Jennings in a 37-27 loss at Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 29, 2007 — when he was in his third season with the Green Bay Packers, after replacing legendary quarterback Brett Favre in the game.
He tossed his first professional touchdown as a starter to Korey Hall in a 24-19 win at Lambeau Field against the Minnesota Vikings in the Monday night season opener on Sept. 8, 2008.
He joins Tom Brady (649), Drew Brees (571), Peyton Manning (539) and Brett Favre (508) as the only players to throw 500 regular-season touchdown passes.
Wide receiver Davante Adams eclipsed 1,000 yards for the fifth straight season on a 30-yard gain in the second quarter and running back Braelon Allen’s 8-yard run gave him the most rushing yards for a player under 21 years old in NFL history.
It is not clear if Aaron Rodgers would come back for the 2025 season with the New York Jets or if he’s coming back at all after a very impressive 20-year NFL career.
“Yeah, of course,” Rodgers said when asked Wednesday if he has considered that the season finale Sunday against Miami could also be it for him. The 41-year-old quarterback insisted, though, he’s not ready to make a call on his playing future.
“I just need a break mentally to kind of refresh and put my feet in the sand,” he said. “And see where I’m at after that.”
Still, he very much sounded as though he doesn’t necessarily expect to be back with the Jets – even if he does want to continue playing.
“I mean, gratitude, honestly,” Rodgers said of his time in New York, repeating that sentiment throughout his 10-minute chat with reporters.
“It’s been the best two years of my life.”
Rodgers came to the Jets in April 2023 in a trade from the Packers and immediately stoked optimism throughout the organization and fanbase that New York could go on a Super Bowl run. Or two. Or even more.
