Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has fired back at Pep Guardiola of Manchester City after the manager’s recent comments on Liverpool.
Guardiola passionately defended his side after consecutive draws with Liverpool and Tottenham.
In the wake of the club’s 3-3 draw with Spurs, Sky Sports pundits, including Carragher, debated City’s chances of winning a record fourth successive League title.
And Guardiola faulted Carragher’s comments in Tuesday’s press conference, bringing up the fact he [Carragher] never won the league title in his career days at Liverpool.
“Maybe, maybe I’m wrong and they are seeing everything that I’m not able to see, but I don’t have that feeling,” the City manager declared, having also noted Gary Neville’s failure to win four in a row with Manchester United.
“Jamie Carragher didn’t win one (league title). Micah Richards didn’t win four Premier Leagues in a row. Never, ever.”
Responding to Guardiola’s savage dig, Carragher took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and cited the 115 charges issued against City by the Premier League.
Writing on X, Carragher said: “I think I’d have probably won one if Liverpool were owned by a nation-state, and pushed the rules so far that the PL charged us 115 times!! I was actually praising Pep’s team after the game on Sunday.”
In his press conference, ahead of City’s game with Aston Villa, Guardiola stressed he felt City could win the Premier League once more.
The Spaniard said: “I have a feeling that if we maintain that level, we’ll win the Premier League. We will win it again.
“If we (could) maintain the level of Liverpool and Tottenham, I’ll sign for it right now. We didn’t win 5-0 – we drew – but I’d sign right now (for) my team (to) behave the way we’ve played the last two games. I don’t know if we can sustain that all season and that is the challenge.
“I don’t have anything to say about the pundits. Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think it’s about complacency. I know the players, I know how they run. How we behave is extraordinary.
“He knows how difficult it is otherwise Gary Neville would’ve won four Premier Leagues in the best period of Manchester United. But he didn’t do it. I see my team, how they fight, how they press, how they continue until the end and how upset they are after we concede.”

Monaco sit third in the table, six points behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain, but manager Adi Hutter will hope Minamino’s prolific form can help rival Le Parisiens for the title.
Fortunately, Liverpool are managing well without him, and sit second in the Premier League table, two points behind Arsenal.
Speaking to TNT Sports about his time at Liverpool, Minamino said: “It was a great experience for me.
“We won the Premier League and two cups — the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. This for me was a very important experience as a football player, this is the most impressive memory.
“Anfield is one of the best stadiums in the world, this atmosphere and if you score as a Liverpool player it is amazing. I never forget that feeling.”
