Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane are almost certainly out for Man United against Nottingham Forest but could welcome two players back.
Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay could return for Manchester United against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
United travel to Forest with eight injured players uncertain after centre-backs Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were injured in a 2-2 Europa League quarter-final draw with Sevilla.
Alejandro Garnacho sidelined for five weeks with ankle injury, Shaw to miss last two games, Marcus Rashford to ‘miss a few games’, McTominay was out against Sevilla through injury, Donny van de Beek is out for the rest of the season and Tom Heaton recovering from a foot injury.
Ten Hag was unable to provide an update on Martinez 12 hours after speaking to reporters at his post-game press conference Thursday night, but said he has an idea of the severity of the injury amid reports that Martinez he had broken his metatarsal bone in Argentina.
“I can’t say at the moment that if we hear back, we will tell you immediately,” Ten Hag said. “We do the medical treatment, a full evaluation, a full diagnosis, it doesn’t change at the moment. I have an idea, but I’m not causing speculation.
“It hasn’t been 24 hours so I don’t have a full diagnosis so I can’t say at this point.
“Yes, [we may have the players back]. But you have to see. We have two sessions left so I don’t know at the moment but Scott and Luke could return to the team. But not sure.”
Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire will start at Forest and United have won the last 10 games Maguire has started. Lindelof has started just five times this calendar year and the future of both centre-backs is uncertain.
When asked how much faith he has in the duo, Ten Hag replied, “A lot. Decent central halves. They have proven that in the past and this season we have four or five very good centre-backs who can do the job.”
