Dimitar Berbatov warns Erik ten Hag against selling Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial is expected to stay at Manchester United as he can produce his best football with Erik ten Hag’s ‘full confidence’.

Says ex-United forward Dimitar Berbatov, who believes an injury-free Martial is a huge asset to United.

Martial missed much of the season due to various injury issues, which made the team’s goal-scoring burden fall on Marcus Rashford.

But with Rashford injured, Martial has made a strong comeback to the team this month and has started in each of the last two games.

With United keen to sign a top-flight centre-forward this summer, it seems Martial could be sold to raise cash.

However, Berbatov thinks Martial should stay at the club, as he still has a lot to offer.

“I’d like to see him stay. I played with Anthony in Monaco and I know he has the ability to be better than what he shows,” Berbatov told Betfred.

All he has to do is avoid injury and he has to know that the coach trusts him.

“He should know that he can make mistakes during the match without being replaced or excluded from the next match. He needs the full confidence of a coach so he can play to the fullest.

“I’m happy with what I’ve seen from him since his return from injury and would love to see him stay at Old Trafford.”
