Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho should have gone to the World Cup with Argentina, says fellow legend Mario Kempes.
Argentina did pretty well at the 2022 World Cup, winning the tournament for the first time since 1986. But maybe with Alejandro Garnacho in the squad it could have been a bit easier.
French striker Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick left Argentina reeling from penalties in the final.
According to Kempes, Manchester United wonderkid Garnacho could have been their very own Mbappe.
1978 world champion Mario Kempes has been quoted by Argentine broadcaster TNT Sport as talking about the Manchester United youngster.
He said: “He has an incredible category and personality. He reminds me of Mbappe.
Kempes added: “I don’t know why he didn’t go to the World Cup.”
The ex-striker’s words are compliments and show how high Garnacho is in his homeland.
He was called up to the Argentina national team in March before an ankle ligament injury ruled him out.
Argentine outlet El Destape reported this week that Garnacho is expected to resume action in early May.
The 18-year-old shared a photo of himself wearing football boots for the first time since his injury, showing he is making positive progress in his recovery.
Whether or not Garnacho can stand up to Mbappe’s comparisons, Manchester United fans agree the teenager is a very special talent.
He fired United in the FA Youth Cup around this time last year and went on to score for the first team in the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup, also contributing to the Club’s Carabao Cup win.
We hope to see him again as soon as possible so that he can continue to live up to his noble billing and pick up where he left off.
