Manchester United aim to equal FA Cup record in their meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion

Manchester United can set an FA Cup record if they beat Brighton & Hove Albion in their semi-final on Sunday.

A win for Erik ten Hag’s side at Wembley will take the club to their 21st FA Cup final, equaling Arsenal’s current record.

No team has reached as many semi-finals as United, it is their 31st in the competition, but after 13 straight wins between 1976 and 2007 the Red Devils have lost three of their last five at this stage.

Their last FA Cup semi-final came against Chelsea in 2020 where they were beaten 3-1 and their recent record against Brighton is concerning after losing their last two to the Seagulls.

It could end Man United’s hopes of reaching both domestic cup finals in the same season for the third time and the first time since 1994.

However, Brighton will need to make history on their own to reach their end-of-season highlight as the club have never won a match at Wembley.

Albion’s last visit was in the semi-final of the 2019 FA Cup where they were beaten by United’s rivals Manchester City.
