Mason Greenwood has told friends he will never play for Man United again, The Sun reveals.
The striker assumed he would return after attempted rape and assault charges were dropped in February.
But he encountered opposition from women and some teammates.
The club have spent 12 weeks investigating the 21-year-old, who is nowhere near being reinstated in the first team.
Greenwood, who last played 15 months ago, has now agreed to relaunch his career overseas.
A source said: “Mason believes he is done with United.
“He was sitting at home kicking his heels and was very frustrated.
“He wants to go back to playing football, but he realizes that his situation is very complicated and that he brought it on himself.
“He is determined to get back into football, but he doesn’t think he will ever wear a United shirt again.”
He was arrested in January 2022 after a lady alleged physical and sexual abuse on social media.
But CPS dropped the case after his alleged victim and a dozen other witnesses refused to cooperate.
The club’s sponsors would like to avoid associations with him.
United said in February: “The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps.
“We will not comment further until the process is complete.”
