When Manchester United defeated Aston Villa on Sunday in the Premier League, Bruno Fernandes achieved a personal milestone. As the Red Devils snapped Villa’s 10-match winning streak under Unai Emery, the 28-year-old playmaker scored the game’s lone goal to bring his league career total to 100.
Just before the 40th minute of the first half, Casemiro used cunning to make Villa pay for using a high line, sealing the victory for United. The Brazilian passed the ball to an open Marcus Rashford on the left side of the field, who took a shot from an awkward angle.
However, the Englishman was unable to keep possession of the ball and instead forced Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to block the shot. Fernandes then had the chance to score the game’s only goal with a spectacular strike as a result of this.
With the goal, Bruno reached 100 goals in his club career and 42 for Manchester United. The Portuguese midfielder scored 39 goals for Sporting, with 10 coming from Udinese, five from Sampdoria, and four from Novara, respectively.
With their league-best home winning streak now at 15, United has made significant progress towards qualifying for the Champions League. The Red Devils currently sit in fourth place with a game remaining, three points behind Newcastle United.
