Merson criticizes Manchester United attacker who ‘shouldn’t be playing’ under Ten Hag because ‘they need Kane’

In his preview of West Ham’s matchup with Manchester United, Paul Merson emphasized Erik ten Hag’s need for ‘a Harry Kane up front’ starting in the upcoming campaign.

In the coming summer, the Red Devils will be looking to add a striker. Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to join Al-Nassr, Wout Weghorst was added on loan.

Since Weghorst has had difficulty lately, it is rumored that United will not make a permanent signing for him this summer.

On Thursday night, Ten Hag’s team was defeated 1-0 by Brighton and Hove Albion as Anthony Martial made a start for Man Utd.

The Frenchman was outstanding for United in preseason, but due to injury issues, he has missed most of this season.

Martial, according to former United player Paul Parker also, has been the team’s ‘disappointment of the season’ and may leave in the summer.

In Merson’s opinion, Man Utd will lose to West Ham this weekend, and he anticipates that Ten Hag will “change” his front three this summer.

“Manchester United has performed poorly away from home this year. They did okay against Brighton, but the Seagulls improved in the second half and earned a stoppage-time winner to secure the victory at the Amex Stadium,” Merson said to Sportskeeda.

The game, in my opinion, will end in a draw, but I still think Manchester United will finish in the top four this year and qualify for the UEFA Champions League. The 2022–23 season may still be remembered fondly for West Ham because I don’t see them being relegated and they have the UEFA Conference League semifinal to look forward to.

The current front three for Manchester United consists of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Antony, but I 100% predict that this summer will bring about changes.

They currently trail Manchester City by 16 points, and the same team won’t even come close to winning the Premier League the following year. They require a Harry Kane up front. I’m sorry, but Anthony Martial shouldn’t be a Manchester United player.”

This summer, Kane, whose contract expires in 2024, is thought to be worth around £100 million. Spurs’ inability to sell him has been explained by Gary Neville.

Harry Kane cannot, in my opinion, leave Tottenham in the offseason, Neville said.

“They’ll have to permit him to wind down his contract. Next season, with a new manager, they will need to construct everything around him. Will a new manager who is a big name want to take the position if he leaves in the summer and Kane isn’t there if he’s a big name?

They may simply have to accept that they won’t receive payment for him or make an effort to persuade him to remain during that season. Son Heung-min and Kane will be kept together by the new manager who replaces the current one.

According to Manchester Evening News, defender Raphael Varane of Manchester United might play against Wolverhampton Wanderers on May 13 after suffering an injury.

The following weekend in the Premier League, the Red Devils will host the Molineux Stadium team at home. But first, the Old Trafford team will travel to West Ham United on Sunday, May 7, in an effort to clinch a top-four spot.

The French national was hurt during the first leg of the quarterfinal matchup in the Europa League against Sevilla and was taken off at the break. The previous center back for Real Madrid has been sidelined ever since, along with Lisandro Martinez.

In their matchup with the La Liga team, Man United blew a two-goal advantage and ended up drawing. Afterward, the Spanish team defeated United 3-0 at the Ramon Sanchez Pijuan.

This season, Varane and Martinez have forged an excellent partnership for the Old Trafford team. In Manchester, the Argentine reconnected with Erik ten Hag after joining the team last summer.

The two World Cup champions have been paired together in the Red Devils’ backline per the coach’s preference. The former Ajax defender is out for the remainder of the season, but the 30-year-old has a history of injuries.

It’s a good thing that Man United’s backline has enough depth. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are resources that we can use. They have played together frequently in previous seasons, despite the fact that our captain and the Swedish player have less influence in the team since Ten Hag’s arrival.

Luke Shaw has also performed admirably while playing the position of center-back. Under the Dutch manager, the 27-year-old has demonstrated his adaptability. However, the England international was at fault when he conceded a penalty against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Varane’s return will therefore undoubtedly help the Old Trafford team. The 30-year-old is extremely talented and experienced, and it appears that he will be crucial in the campaign’s final few games.
