How Liverpool can topple Manchester City as Premier League champions next season

For a Liverpool supporter, the Premier League season has been nothing short of a letdown as Jurgen Klopp’s team has failed to contend for any major championships in either domestic or European soccer. To make matters worse, the Reds are almost certainly out of the top-four race, which means they will not play in the UEFA Champions League the following year.

Going into the summer transfer window, Klopp has a sizable rebuilding task on his hands because untimely injuries and a lack of form has plagued Liverpool’s team this season.

All hope is not lost, though, as Liverpool is almost certain to secure European competition for the upcoming campaign. Without Champions League football available at Anfield, there are some questions about whether the Merseyside club can draw the best players.

Liverpool currently trail the newly crowned Premier League champions, Manchester City, by 22 points. For this reason, if the Reds want to close the gap and challenge for the league title the next season, they must significantly strengthen their squad this summer.

How Can Liverpool Win The Premier League Title next Season?
Alisson Becker has been performing at a high level for the Reds week in and week out, giving Jurgen Klopp a strong goalkeeping lineup right now. But this season, the media has been very critical of the Liverpool defense.

Next summer, when Joel Matip’s contract expires, Klopp would be wise to cash in on him and sign a replacement who can compete with Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate for a regular starting position at Anfield. Trent Alexander-Arnold has frequently been a defensive liability this season while playing right-back for the Reds, so they could also gain from bringing in a new right-back.

As this summer’s free agents, James Milner and Naby Keita are soon to depart the Merseyside team. Thiago Alcantara has also had trouble avoiding injuries this season, and Fabinho and Jordan Henderson’s performances have not been particularly consistent.

If Klopp wants his team to contend for the Premier League title next season, he should concentrate on signing at least two new midfielders.

Roberto Firmino, the team’s leading attacker, will soon leave the organization as his contract is up. It will be interesting to see if Klopp decides to replace him by using the transfer market.

Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Mohamed Salah, among others, are vying for a spot in Jurgen Klopp’s starting lineup, but Liverpool currently have a fearsome attack. Consequently, the Reds don’t have a pressing need to sign a new attacker this summer.

Liverpool’s starting lineup still have a strong core.
The question is whether players like Nunez and Gakpo will improve the following year.

There is a good chance that Liverpool, under Klopp, will challenge City for the Premier League title if they play well.
