Before the transfer window opens, Liverpool is expected to close its first summer deal

The new Liverpool sporting director will be Jorg Schmadtke.

The German is about to agree to a short-term contract at Anfield and take over the crucial technical position from Julian Ward, who has chosen to resign from his position after just one year.

Schmadtke, who left Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga in January, is acquainted with Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.

Nevertheless, Schmadtke will get the job, according to Klopp, who insisted that their relationship isn’t the reason. He stated, “If it happens, it would not be a Jurgen Klopp signing because we are both German or because we know each other,” prior to last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa. That wouldn’t be connected in any way. I am qualified to say that.

“I’ve known Jorg Schmadtke for a very, very long time. Though he was a much better player than I was, we began our second careers at roughly the same time, so he probably knows me less than I do. Since we both worked for teams with similar standings—I became a coach at Mainz and he became the sporting director at Aachen—we got to know one another a little bit.

“I am aware of his goodness and intelligence. He was undoubtedly very successful and very good at what he did in Germany. His personality, humor, and moral fiber are all strong. My brief experience next to the pitch has taught me that. ”.

Schmadtke’s first responsibility will be to assist Liverpool’s summer hiring effort. The Reds will likely not make the Champions League, so the upcoming transfer window will be crucial in ensuring that they once again contend for championships in the following campaign.

After losing James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Liverpool will focus on strengthening the midfield. Mason Mount of Chelsea, Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich, and Alex Mac Allister of Brighton are all on the shopping list.
