The new Liverpool sporting director will be Jorg Schmadtke.

The German is about to agree to a short-term contract at Anfield and take over the crucial technical position from Julian Ward, who has chosen to resign from his position after just one year.

Schmadtke, who left Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga in January, is acquainted with Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.
