Liverpool could go into the final day of the Premier League season needing Fulham to beat Manchester United.
Prior to Sunday’s matchup with Manchester United, Fulham star Joao Palhinha outlined the Cottagers’ demands as Liverpool attempt to squeak into the Champions League spots.
Going into their next two Premier League games, the Red Devils trail by three points. Erik ten Hag’s team hosts Chelsea tonight with the knowledge that a win will guarantee their return to Europe’s top league.
If they lose to the Londoners, the final match against Marco Silva’s team will determine whether the Reds can defy all odds and qualify for the Champions League.
Liverpool leave for Southampton knowing that they have no chance of qualifying for the elite competition. Sunday’s game isn’t a lock for Fulham, who are hoping to set a club record and exact revenge for their losses to United this season.
The two games against them will be sought after, according to Palhinha. According to the Portugal star, “there were two games that we could have won. The last game we had some players leave the field, but before that we had played a really good game at Old Trafford. But even in the first game, we demonstrated up until the very last second that we had a chance to win.
“And I anticipate the same thing for this third game against them. We will play in a fantastic stadium with a fantastic atmosphere, so it goes without saying that it will be a challenging game.
“We will treat this contest as though it were the final because we all want to set a new club mark by becoming the first Fulham team to accumulate these points,” said Palhinha. “We had a chance to win the last game, but we drew.
Now, we have another chance—our final chance—to win.”
