Liverpool FC has once again been recognised for its commitment to creating a better future for its people, planet and communities, winning the sustainability award at the 2023 Football Business Awards for the club’s ongoing sustainability strategy, The Red Way.
The club’s first The Red Way Report, showcasing the work done across all areas of the club, was published in March of this year. The club’s overall sustainability program was introduced in January 2021.
This honor is the most recent of many received by LFC for The Red Way. In addition, the team won the Sports Positive League title for the second consecutive year in 2023 and was recognized as the most environmentally friendly Premier League football team.
As the first club in the Premier League to receive ISO 20121 certification, Liverpool FC is also setting an example as a club that can deliver sustainable events that minimize potential environmental harm and leave a lasting legacy.
Only three clubs in the Premier League have signed the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework on the Race to Zero, and one of those three is Liverpool. By the end of the 2022–23 season, LFC wants all of its sporting endeavors to be net zero, and by the year 2025, it wants all club operations to be powered entirely by low-carbon and clean energy.
The Red Way has prospered and keeps gaining ground thanks to the kind deeds of LFC associates and partners who came together to make a difference.
The LFC Foundation won the silver award for best football community scheme – Premier League at the Football Business Awards, and the club’s partnership with NIVEA MEN won the bronze award for sponsorship/partnership of the year, both in recognition of their outstanding work in the city and beyond.
