Liverpool is in talks to sell a 20-year-old player with a better goal scoring record than Darwin Nunez

Liverpool, Darwin Nunez, 2022–2023.
By the recent standards set by Jurgen Klopp’s team, Liverpool’s fifth-place finish in the Premier League was an abject performance.

The Reds’ problems go back to the summer of 2017, when they made mistakes in the transfer market, most notably by not recruiting enough players to replace an ailing midfield.

But the Anfield club is also about to admit they made mistakes up front, too, as one of their summer 2022 additions is set to be sold a year after joining the team.

When Liverpool paid €5.9 million to acquire Fabio Carvalho from Fulham, they had high expectations for the winger. However, Carvalho has not lived up to Liverpool’s expectations.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Klopp’s team is “in talks” with a foreign club regarding a long-term transfer for the Portugal U21 winger, who has a contract that expires in 2027.

A lot of loan offers from Premier League rivals are reportedly on the table, and Carvalho is eager to transfer to a team with a project that suits him, according to the transfer window expert.

However, it doesn’t seem as though he has yet come up with a solution that works for him.

Carvalho hasn’t played more than 10 minutes in a Premier League game since October, and he hasn’t had many opportunities to shine at Anfield. Instead, he frequently finds himself stuck on the bench, occasionally not even making it that far.

Although he only played 340 minutes of Premier League football this season, he scored twice—once in the 9-0 victory over Bournemouth and again in the 2-1 victory over Newcastle four days later.

This alone is a track record that demonstrates Carvalho’s potential. In comparison to star summer signing Darwin Nunez, the young player performs admirably. For the 2022–23 season, the Portuguese has one Premier League goal every 170 minutes while the €80 million signing has only scored once every 189 Premier League minutes.
