Trent Alexander-Arnold Has Qualities That Aren’t Far Off Lionel Messi – Tony Cascarino

Tony Cascarino of TalkSPORT has heaped praise on Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool for his outstanding midfield performance.

According to Tony Cascarino, the Liverpool defender possesses some distinctive traits that are comparable to those of Lionel Messi, the current Ballon d’Or holder.

Alexander-Arnold’s switch from right-back to midfield has worked wonders for both club and country in recent games.

The 24-year-old helped the Reds finish fifth in the league and earn a spot in the UEFA Europa League for the upcoming season by contributing seven assists and one goal in his final 10 games.

He was selected to play for England in two Euro 2024 qualifiers this month as a result of his strong performance.

As the Three Lions defeated Malta 4-0 on Friday, the versatile player turned in a performance worthy of player of the game honors by scoring and contributing an assist.

In place of Kieran Trippier at right back, Alexander-Arnold played as an outright midfielder.

“You can tell by looking at Trent that he can deliver. Because you do it against Malta, everyone wonders, Will he get the chance against Germany, Argentina, or Brazil in a quarterfinal World Cup game? Would you still play him there?” Cascarino told talkSPORT.

The memory of them (other nations) playing him is what Cascarino kept repeating. “Everyone is aware that they would. The majority of the World Cup was spent by Lionel Messi wandering around, yet he still managed to win it. Trent is not being compared to Messi here. He does, however, share some of his characteristics.

“We all look at Trent and think, That’s what we know he can do, but can he get better in that area as well?”
