Diogo Jota is confident that Liverpool will be at their best and contend for the Premier League championship the following year.
The Reds, who finished fifth in the Premier League last season but were unable to qualify for the Champions League, will now play in the Europa League for the first time since 2015.
Injury forced Jota to miss a number of games for Jurgen Klopp’s team, but he still managed to score seven goals and record eight assists in 28 games across all competitions.
“Over the past few years, we have consistently been in the top few teams – three seasons with over 90 points, which is amazing. The Portuguese forward told FourFourTwo in an interview that it was even more incredible not to win the league with so many points.
“So, I believe that should be our goal: to perform better than we did this season, for sure, and to contend for titles.
“You should always add new players to the squad. We’ve done that, and if we stick together for a very long time, things will improve. It’s true that we didn’t perform well in the most recent season, but hopefully that was just a low point, and we can now recover and try to contend for titles once more.
The 26-year-old has made 113 appearances, scored 41 goals, and registered 17 assists across all competitions since moving to Anfield from Wolves in 2020, earning him the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup winning medals.
Jota is currently on Portugal’s international duty and is anticipated to join the Liverpool team when they head to Germany for a preseason training camp in the middle of July.
