With Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle all reportedly interested in signing him this summer, speculation surrounding the Inter Milan player has reached a fever pitch.
Despite Jurgen Klopp’s vocal support, the Italy international will not push for a move from Inter Milan to Liverpool this summer, a new report claims.
Despite helping Inter to the Champions League showpiece last season, speculation over Barella and his immediate future at the San Siro continues to gather pace. Liverpool are among those reportedly interested, amid suggestions they will bid £77m for Barella to help boost their engine room.
Liverpool is keeping an eye on players like Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone, and Ryan Gravenberch, so a sizable investment seems highly improbable after shelving plans to target Jude Bellingham due to the associated costs. However, when discussing Barella in the past, Klopp waxed poetic about the 26-year-old as he continued to put Manchester United and Newcastle on high alert.
Klopp evaluated his qualities and said, “He’s a really good player. He’s a great player, and I really like him. He is aggressive, technical, long-distance runner, and all the other qualities you look for in a midfielder.
Excellent athlete.”
Last week, shocking reports from The Telegraph suggested Newcastle were nearing a £50 million transfer for the Euro 2020 winner. Moving on, those assertions seem to have been exaggerated, and Inter are rumored to be holding out for closer to €80 million if they even approve a sale.
In several publications, Liverpool have been credited with preparing a £77 million offer.
Later reports from the Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, however, seem to have dashed any hopes by stating that Barella is “taking no notice” of the rumors and is determined to remain at the San Siro. It also implies that people in the background would be “open” to selling him for the right sum.
The main point of the article, however, is that Barella is “unmoved” and would prefer to stay with Inter.
