Liverpool sent exciting Erling Haaland Message over possible £60m signing

Liverpool could be close to signing £60m man ‘as talented as Erling Haaland’.

The Reds are considering a move that would bring RB Leipzig star Dominik Szoboszlai to Anfield.

Former RB Salzburg and Leeds United manager Jesse March has previously claimed Liverpool target Dominik Szoboszlai is “as talented” as Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian talisman took the Premier League by storm in his first season in England, winning the Golden Boot. On his destructive path to the top flight, he surpassed Reds striker Mohamed Salah’s record for best striker of the season with 36 goals.

Liverpool are exploring the possibility of a deal for RB Leipzig midfielder Szoboszlai, while Jurgen Klopp continues to assess his options for a rebuild. Alexis Mac Allister was the first piece of the puzzle after arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion in June, while players like Khephren Thuram and Ryan Gravenberch are valued by Anfield bosses.

Szoboszlai, 22, could cost the Reds £60m if they activate his release clause, but they may need to act quickly with reports suggesting the fixed fee expires as early as 30 June.

Marsch was in charge of the duo during their partnership at Salzburg before Haaland moved to Borussia Dortmund and Szoboszlai followed the path of many from Austria to RB Leipzig in 2021.

The Hungarian won four Austrian Bundesliga titles with the club and picked up the player of the year award before his move to Saxony. The pair would reunite during the American tactician’s short tenure at Leipzig and Marsch had already praised the Liverpool’s target.

“In terms of talent, there aren’t many better players who can play in [Szoboszlai’s] position. Some are strong, some are technical, some are tactical and some are good at defending or running a lot,” he said.

“However, Dominik is special because he combines all these skills. Dominik is just as talented as Erling Haaland.”

Should he move to Merseyside, Szoboszlai will face Haaland as the Reds look to challenge Manchester City again. Liverpool will be hoping there was a blow last season when they lost pace and finished fifth and the Citizens won the treble.

Haaland’s influence was evident upon his arrival in Austria as the Anfield target player spoke enthusiastically about Pep Guardiola’s star man.

Szoboszlai said: “We are still friends, we still keep in touch. When I arrived at Salzburg, [Munas] Dabbur helped me the most with the transition to the professional game. I knew how difficult it is to be in the team. I can get used to it even though I am all friendly and try to help.

“They already know each other, so it can be difficult to integrate. When Erling arrived, he was the only new player that summer and everyone knew each other. I thought to myself that I was in the same situation, so I was very open with him and helped him with whatever he needed.

“We went out together, even though he doesn’t do much and we also went out for dinner and so on. We became good friends and I helped him get to know the team while he helped me with my English, so we both helped one another.”
