Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is still considering a bid from the Saudi Pro League side.
But ex-Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant is shocked by what Jordan Henderson is reportedly been offered to join Al Ettifaq.
Henderson is still considering a bid from the Saudi Pro League side, now managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. A report on Wednesday evening said the England international had been offered a contract worth £700,000 a week.
ECHO reported on Friday that despite claims that Henderson’s future could be resolved before Jurgen Klopp’s side fly to Germany for a pre-season training camp in the Black Forest on Saturday, Liverpool have yet to be contacted by any club in Saudi Arabia.
Henderson, who has two years left on his contract at Anfield, will face stiff competition for Klopp’s midfield places next season following the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai for a combined fee of £95m.
And in response to news of the offer Henderson received, Pennant, speaking to talkSPORT alongside Andy Goldstein, joked that the number would normally be used to entice Lionel Messi to travel to Saudi Arabia.
He said: “It’s crazy and I don’t know what they see in him. It’s Jordan Henderson; it’s not that they’re trying to poach Lionel Messi. It’s just Jordan Henderson.”
Goldstein added: “He was a good captain for Liverpool but I don’t think he will be a game changer. His assists and goals are very weak.
“You can’t argue with what he did at Liverpool. He was their captain, their leader, I understand all of that.”
Pennant then continued: “Look, you say it, but if you tell me a game where Jordan Henderson was a great player or did something that stood out, I can’t.
“Okay, he was there, but I can’t think of a game where I was like, oh yeah, that’s why we signed Jordan Henderson.”
