Jürgen Klopp told to make ‘brilliant’ next midfield transfer after $125m double Liverpool move

Liverpool have been advised to sign Brighton star Moisés Caicedo after the transfers of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have already been finalised.

Former Liverpool Champions League winner Didi Hamann has suggested his former club should compete with Chelsea this summer to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moisés Caicedo.

Chelsea’s second $92m (£70m/€81m) bid for Caicedo was recently rejected by Brighton, according to The Athletic. The offer, which included no extras, was rejected on Monday night and came after Chelsea’s initial £60million bid for the Ecuadorian was also rejected earlier in the transfer window.

Brighton are reportedly asking around $105m (£80m/€93m) for Caicedo. However, Hamann believes Liverpool should take the opportunity to strengthen their midfield by signing the versatile Seagulls player.

Caicedo has been linked with a move to Anfield over the past year. “Liverpool will need another midfielder if Jordan Henderson and Fabinho decide to leave due to the offers they have received from Saudi Arabia,” Hamann told Lord Ping.

“Moisés Caicedo is a brilliant player who fits the profile of a ‘ball winner’, similar to what Fabinho has done for Liverpool for years. If there’s a chance of snatching the Chelsea deal then I think Liverpool should bet on Caicedo”.

Hamann believes Caicedo would be a great addition to Liverpool’s midfield, alongside recent signings Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister. Liverpool wasted no time in signing Mac Allister and Szoboszlai at the start of the summer, with the combined cost for the two players coming in at $124m (£95m/€111m) due to pre-existing buyout clauses.

However, with the departures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keïta at the end of last season, the potential departures of Henderson and Fabinho would bring the total midfield departures to five. Both players have attracted interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.

Liverpool captain Henderson is currently in Baden-Württemberg with the rest of the squad preparing for friendlies against Karlsruher SC and Greuther Furth later this week. Meanwhile, Fabinho has remained on Merseyside as talks continue between Anfield officials and Al Ittihad over a potential deal.

Liverpool’s Premier League season kicks off on August 13 with an away match against Chelsea. As the transfer window progresses it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will take Hamann’s advice and move to Caicedo, but a move to Stamford Bridge is much more likely.
