Football pundit Steve Nicol has said £66m Liverpool player was not up to the mark against Manchester City. Nicol criticized the performance of Liverpool goalkeeper Allison Becker.
The Reds played a 1-1 draw against City at the Etihad. Even though the result is considerably fair, Klopp’s side was not at their very best.
A number of Liverpool stars did not stand up to the level they are known for. Mo Salah and Virgil Van Dijk could have done better. However, Allison Becker displayed one of the worst performances after such a long time.
Speaking on ESPN, Nicol was discussing about the Brazilian goalkeeper saying that he was very uncomfortable between the sticks on Saturday. It looked like he was playing with slippers on.
“Alisson in this game didn’t cover himself in glory. He made one good stop from Haaland just before Liverpool actually scored, but other than that, a player we talk about having such great feet, he looked like he had slippers on with no studs, he looked uncomfortable with the ball at his feet the whole game.”
Allison is a world-class player and probably the best in the world right now. Though, it was not one of his best days. The goalkeeper made two big errors last year also in the same fixture and a mistake in champions League against Real Madrid.
Despite being not the most terrible day, Becker certainly does not live up to his standards. He made a really good save from Phil Foden in the first-half, but, his distribution was off. Moreover, he was very lucky that Ruben Dias’ goal to make it 2-0 was disallowed.
