‘BIG DIFFERENCE’: Jamie Redknapp urges Liverpool to sign ‘most underrated’ player live on Sky Sports

Liverpool have got the chance to sit at the top of the Premier League table at Christmas, something many fans didn’t predict or expect at the start of the season.

The simple reason is how poor Liverpool performed, by their own high standards, last season and the massive transition they’re now going through.

But can the Reds provide Jurgen Klopp with the best present by signing a much-needed number six during the January transfer window?

In the build-up of Liverpool’s 5-1 League Cup quarter-final win over West Ham United, Jamie Redknapp put forward the name of Fulham’s, Joao Palhinha.

Jamie Redknapp described the Bayern Munich transfer target as ‘one of the most underrated players’ and someone who can make a ‘big difference to any team’, as he told Sky Sports Football [Wednesday 7:25 pm].

There was a lot of talk of Joao Palhinha leaving Fulham in the summer, but he stayed put and signed a new contract, despite practically being on the doorstep of Bayern’s.

Now, many will speculate whether or not he has a release clause in his contract, but don’t be surprised if the 28-year-old is very much sought-after next month.

“I am a big fan of Palhinha in midfield,” said Redknapp. “I think he is one of the most underrated players.

“The job that he does. If I were Liverpool right now, I would look to get him in my midfield in January. He makes a big difference to any team.”

Liverpool’s midfield is fairing well and starting to show promise after struggling and declining the season before.

Nobody has settled in better than Dominik Szoboszlai, but you just feel that he needs help and a bonafide number six needs to be added.

Whether it’s Palhinha or somebody else, you feel if that player arrives, then Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League title increase big time.

And if Treble-winners Manchester City are going to continue to drop points, then there isn’t a better time to win it than now.
