Fabinho laments ‘unfortunate’ situation at Liverpool presently

Former Reds star Fabinho has labelled the condition of Thiago at Liverpool ‘unfortunate’ as he continues to watch the Reds from afar. He still believes the Spaniard is offering something, though.

Both Fabinho and Roberto Firmino made a trip from Saudi Arabia to Anfield this week. The two Ex-Liverpool players were in attendance as Liverpool beat Newcastle United 4-2.

Both left in the summer, of course, joining the mass movement from Europe to the Middle East at top-level football. Firmino left at the expiration of his contract, while Fabinho followed him down the line after a deal between Al-Ittihad and Liverpool was reached.

Of course, they’ve still been watching their former side and the players that replaced them. Fabinho, in particular, witnessed a handful of midfielders arrive last summer.

“It’s really important for the team that the players that arrived are already playing good football, really integrated to the team,” Fabinho told Liverpoolfc.com.

“Players like [Dominik] Szoboszlai, [Alexis] Mac Allister, [Wataru] Endo are playing really well. It’s important because the team lost some really important players. I think they are doing a good job.”

However, he also lamented the situation around a former teammate – Thiago. The Spaniard hasn’t played all season because of an injury and Fabinho feels that’s unfortunate.

“Unfortunately, Thiago is not playing regularly but I’m sure with his experience he is helping these players as well – he talks a lot, he has really good communication,” he said.

Thiago is now nearly forgotten at Anfield this season. The Reds’ midfield overhaul was supposed to include him as a massively experienced link between the former midfield and this one. Instead, it’s as though he’s not with the club at all.

Thiago’s contract expires in the summer, too, so it’s incredibly unclear how much we’ll see of him in a Liverpool shirt again. Hopefully, he can make some sort of return soon because a relatively ‘fresh’ Thiago would be an enormous asset for the squad over the remainder of the season.
