Liverpool beat Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates on Sunday to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Jakub Kiwior scored an own goal in the 80th minute before Luis Diaz sealed the win in stoppage time.
Arsenal have now been knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round twice in the last three years.
The Gunners – who lost at Nottingham Forest in round three back in 2022 – have also now lost three matches in a row in all competitions for the first time in 21 months.
Sunday’s defeat is coming after Premier League losses to West Ham and Fulham at the end of December.
Arsenal were the better side for much of Sunday’s game and recorded 18 shots – six more than Liverpool, who were missing Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
Alisson Becker needed to make six saves to keep an impressive clean sheet for the visitors.
At the other end, Aaron Ramsdale was also in fine form. Arsenal’s cup keeper almost provided an excellent assist for Reiss Nelson in the third minute and later produced a stunning stop to block a Diaz effort at 0-0.
But Ramsdale was eventually beaten by one of his teammates when Kiwior’s header diverted a wicked free-kick by Trent Alexander-Arnold into the net.
With Arsenal pushing desperately for an equalizer, Diaz then delivered a killer blow from a Liverpool counter-attack in the 94th minute.
This was the second match between Arsenal and Liverpool in the last 15 days – following a 1-1 draw at Anfield in the Premier League.
Liverpool will visit the Emirates Stadium again on February 4.
