Liverpool and Manchester City have had a fierce rivalry on the pitch. The two teams and players have fought each other at the pinnacle of English football for years.
But off it, that doesn’t always translate. Both Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp hugely admire each other. The Reds’ players often mix with Manchester City stars, and live close to each other.
At the end of the day, they’re all human, and football is just a game. Nothing more. Even if sometimes it feels a lot more important than that.
So, maybe Liverpool’s £60m (as per GOAL) summer acquisition’s recent words may come as a surprise to some. But it shouldn’t.
Speaking to Nemzeti Sport, Dominik Szoboszlai was asked about who he wants to see win the upcoming Best FIFA Football Awards 2023, which is set to take place in London on Monday night.
Up for the award are the likes of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. However, the Hungarian instead decided to pick a certain Manchester City forward in Erling Haaland.
“I really hope that it’s him [who wins]. Among the candidates, he is the one who I personally know well. We keep in touch. We last talked a few days ago, and I am very happy about his success, I support him,” Szoboszlai revealed.
- This shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise. Szoboszlai and Haaland spent time together at Salzburg and are known to be close friends. Of course, you’d want your mate to win an award.
