Liverpool are still on the lookout for Jürgen Klopp’s replacement after a run of fixtures which will ultimately decide how many trophies they end up with this season.
The Reds return to Europa League action against Sparta Prague on Thursday night before the crunch title showdown with Manchester City at Anfield.
That is followed by the return tie with Sparta Prague and a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the FA Cup, with Liverpool still right in the mix in three separate competitions.
Off the pitch, FSG faces the enviable task of appointing Klopp’s replacement, although it appears bringing in a new sporting director — to lead the next manager search — is the priority right now.
Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has been the frontrunner to replace Klopp since he disclosed his intentions to leave and continues to impress in Germany. His side continued its incredible unbeaten campaign by beating FC Köln on Sunday amid continued interest from a host of clubs.
It remains to be seen where the former Liverpool midfielder will end up this summer but he continues to be talked about by media outlets across the world. Here is the latest on the search for Klopp’s successor including an apparent option ruling himself out of the running.
Bayern Munich have reportedly identified Feyenoord boss Arne Slot as an option to replace Thomas Tuchel this summer amid fears their pursuit of Xabi Alonso will be complicated.
Tuchel will leave the German champions at the end of the season and The Athletic reported recently that Alonso was on the wishlist to replace him.
Bayern are 10 points adrift of Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen at the top of Bundesliga and have won just one of its last four matches.
According to AZ, Bayern believes it will be difficult to appoint the Spaniard amid interest from Liverpool, while there remains a strong chance he could stay in his current role.
And while Alonso remains the top choice to replace Tuchel, Slot has emerged as an alternative. The 45-year-old led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last season and his side is second this term, having lost just twice.
Slot was asked about potentially replacing Klopp at Liverpool back in January but distanced himself from the Anfield post.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has no plans to leave the club this summer, reports Football Insider. The 58-year-old has impressed in his debut season in the Premier League with Spurs in the mix for a place in the Champions League.
His was one of a number of names touted for the Liverpool job after Klopp announced his exit plans, having supported the Reds as a youngster. It is claimed that Postecoglou is happy and remains ‘invested’ in the project with Spurs, and will reject any offers to leave this summer.
The former Celtic boss played down links to Liverpool last month, telling Sky Sports: “I am at pains to say that we still have a long way to go in terms of the football we want to play, the team we want to be and the squad we want to have.
“It is about finishing the season strong with Tottenham and making sure we establish a strong foundation for who we want to be in years to come.”
