‘YOU FEEL IT’: Phil Thompson names which club will win the Premier League title now – Man City or Liverpool

Phil Thompson has predicted whether Manchester City or Liverpool will win the Premier League title this season.

In terms of the storylines at play, City, Liverpool and Arsenal all have one at play when it comes to the title.

At the Etihad Stadium, the Sky Blues have a chance to win four league titles in a row while the Reds could allow Jurgen Klopp to have a farewell to remember with yet another title crown and as for the Gunners, they could end the two clubs’ dupoly at the top and also end their 20-year title hoodoo.

However, the trio are all closely fighting for the title crown, with there not being much to separate the three titans of English football.

Perhaps what gives City the edge over their title rivals is that their best is yet to come this campaign, while the other sides may have already played at their highest possible level.

The former Liverpool defender, however, thinks that Liverpool will beat not just Arsenal but also Manchester City to win the Premier League.

“I would still think City are the favourites, Jeff, but knowing my club, yes, I am passionate, all these people who are texting in or getting in touch, yeah, it doesn’t leave you when you have been a fan of your club all your life”, he said on talkSPORT.

“I will talk them up and there is no dishonour in that. I would love my club to win it because when we did it last time, it was behind closed doors and I would love it to be in front of everybody.”

“We have got a great chance. You feel it. As a Liverpool fan, you feel it that this Premier League title will come to us. We have got a great chance.”

While Thompson has backed Liverpool to do the business, Manchester City must focus on themselves and not look too much into what they are doing as well as Arsenal.

It is an age-old cliché but the treble-winners will have to have a game-by-game attitude rather than look too far into the future, as the approach of looking too far ahead could mean nerves enter their dressing room in what is a nerve-racking title race.

In April, Michail Antonio revealed on BBC Sounds’ The Footballer’s Football Podcast that he was told by someone who works at Arsenal that their players started to look at Manchester City’s results, something they had not done throughout the season.

Eventually, Mikel Arteta’s side crumbled to City’s benefit and as a result, it would be wise if the Premier League champions reminded themselves of this instance to keep themselves single-minded on their goal of winning the title.

Liverpool and Arsenal will largely win the rest of their games but as long as Manchester City pile on the pressure by doing their bit, things could get interesting in the title fight.
