‘HAVEN’T LOST HOPE’ – Luis Díaz’s father makes Real Madrid transfer claim about Liverpool ace

The father of Liverpool forward Luis Díaz has expressed his desire to see his son play in the Spanish league in the coming years. The former FC Porto winger joined the Reds in the winter of 2022.

Díaz scored 14 times in 18 league games in the first half of that season in Portugal before Liverpool signed him.

Currently, he has netted 22 times in 86 matches for the Reds. He also overcame a long-term injury that kept him out for several months and hampered his progress.

This year so far, Díaz has played 39 times for Liverpool, scoring 11 times and assisting another five. In terms of minutes played for Jürgen Klopp’s side, only Virgil van Dijk has been on the field more than the Colombian.

As translated by Fabrizio Romano, Díaz senior told Cadena SER:

“There was never anything serious with Real Madrid or Atlético. Liverpool were always more determined and concrete to sign Luis. We haven’t lost our hope yet… Luis is playing well and Spanish clubs are always active in the market.”

Barcelona were interested in signing Díaz when Liverpool beat Spurs to his signing. The Reds committed to paying as much as £49m for him including add-ons which was a fee that the Catalan outfit was unable to match.

Díaz’s father appeared to suggest that Real Madrid would be an ideal destination, where he could follow in the footsteps of fellow Colombian star James Rodríguez, though Radamel Falcao, who played for Atlético, was also mentioned.

While Díaz is yet to explode in terms of goalscoring numbers for Liverpool, he remains a key player. It is unlikely that the Reds would welcome interest from elsewhere with the South American having been a crucial part of the team this year.
