Liverpool to meet with Ruben Amorim’s agent today ahead of crunch talks

Liverpool are set to meet with the agent of Ruben Amorim today as they aim to negotiate the ‘final terms’ of the 39-year-old’s contract, an expert has reported.

The Reds have identified the Sporting CP boss as their first-choice candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp this summer after former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen.

The manager of the Lisbon side has disrupted the dominance of Benfica and Porto in the Primeira Liga, even lifting the title to end Sporting’s 19-year drought during the 2020/21 campaign.

He is in a better position to win the league again this season after beating Benfica 2-1 at the weekend, meaning his side are now four points clear of their city rivals with a game in hand. Sporting have also reached the Taca de Portugal final, where they will face either Porto or Vitoria de Guimaraes.

His impressive work in the Portuguese capital has attracted interest from Liverpool, who are looking to progress in talks with his team this Monday.

According to Portuguese football expert Pedro Sepulveda, Liverpool will discuss the ‘final stages’ of Amorim’s contract with the manager’s agent today (Monday 8 April).

Liverpool are yet to contact Sporting directly concerning Amorim and the Portuguese club haven’t started their search for a replacement as a result, although the Reds would simply have to trigger his release clause to secure his services.

Sepulveda has previously suggested that contract talks between Liverpool and Amorim are speeding up as the Reds try to secure their new manager as soon as possible.

Amorim himself has refused to rule out the possibility of a Sporting exit come the end of the current campaign, although he is understandably focused on finishing the season with a domestic double.

Liverpool are, of course, searching for more silverware in Klopp’s final term in charge of the club, with the Reds having already secured the Carabao Cup.

Their Premier League title bid took a hit on Sunday following a 2-2 draw with Manchester United in a frustrating match and they are also still fighting for the Europa League having reached the quarter-final stage.
