The manager of Sporting CP Ruben Amorim has been touted to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and Wolves’ Jose Sa believes he will succeed in the Premier League.
With Klopp set to leave the Merseyside club after a nine-year-long stint, the Reds ownership has been looking hard and fast for the German’s successor.
They initially targeted Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso for the vacancy, however, his decision to remain with the Bundesliga champions-elect has made the Reds shift their focus towards Amorim, who has claimed a lot of plaudits for his work at Sporting.
Speaking to DAZN, the Portuguese goalkeeper said [via A Bola]:
“Ruben [Amorim] has shown that he has the qualities for this and if he comes to the Premier League, we, the Portuguese, will all be happy, because it shows that Portugal has a lot of quality.”
Amorim was reported to have agreed a deal with Liverpool to join them as their manager following Klopp’s exit, however, earlier this week the Portuguese manager refused the suggestions made by the reports as he clarified.
Speaking to the media, he said: “There was no interview, much less an agreement [with Liverpool],” he told reporters.
“The only thing we want, all of us here, is to be champions with Sporting, and nothing will change. I’ll say it again: I’m Sporting’s coach. There was no interview with any club, no agreement with any club. I am focused, as always, on defending my club.”
With the Sporting boss having made clear that he will not speak about his future, any rumours regarding his move to Liverpool will remain rumours until the Reds make an official announcement for the same.
As such, the lack of chatter will help him and Sporting concentrate on the end of the season as they look to secure their top spot in Liga NOS.
