George Russell’s Cayman Islands getaway: What did the Mercedes star do?

F1 star George Russell is currently living life as he continues to develop his highly-rated talent at Mercedes, where he leads seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, in the standings and he’s enjoyed a quick getaway to the Cayman Islands with girlfriend Carmen Mundt.

The love birds jetted off to the tropical paradise to spend part of his $8 million salary at the Ritz-Carlton before they celebrated their relationship together at the beach and in the baking hot sun before he headed back to racing for the European leg of the calendar.

But in the Caribbean they chilled out on the Seven Mile Beach to play some water sports and to get a much needed break from a hectic schedule in the top class of motorsport.

“Rested and ready. Thank you,” Russell said, in a collage of photos from the trip.

Rooms at the resort start from $900 per night and can hit $1,069 for an ocean view, whilst the most expensive end of the scale includes for an 8000-square-foot home for vacationers at the Ocean Tower. The room the F1 star is thought to have paid for is priced at $2,150, so it’s not cheap by any means.

Despite a disappointing eighth-place at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, there was some encouragement for the German team as Mercedes showed promising pace through Hamilton.

The 103-time race winner was able to hang onto the back of Sergio Perez, and despite lacking the top speed needed to execute an overtake, only lost around 0.250 to the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.

Leclerc has pretty much been out of reach for the opening six rounds of the season, suggesting that Mercedes’ upgrades (which aimed to expand the car’s working window) helped improve the performance before more are due in Italy.

“We do have a few things coming in the short-term,” Russell shared post-race.

“But nothing in the short-term that is going to transform us into race winners.

“So it is going to be painful for a few weeks. I think we have to accept that we are the fourth fastest-team.”
