EXCLUSIVE: Arne Slot era at Liverpool could begin with Inacio signing

With the era of Jurgen Klopp now over, a new chapter has begun for the Reds, and new boss, Arne Slot, has already discussed his main transfer priorities.

The Dutchman seems to be confident of achieving good results from the start of next season, and one of his main requests is to bolster the defence.

According to sources with knowledge of Slot’s plans, Sporting’s brilliant centre-back, Goncalo Inacio, who Liverpool have been working to land since last November, is the main target for the club.

In January, the Portuguese defender chose to stay at Sporting until the end of the season for personal reasons.

However, he’s now ready to make the big leap into the Premier League with Liverpool hoping to complete his transfer in the coming weeks.

Sticking with the Reds defence, Virgil van Dijk’s situation needs to be monitored.

His contract will expire in June 2025 and the discussions related to his renewal have stalled. As a result, the Saudi Pro League continue to consider him as a primary objective.

In midfield, Liverpool are running the rule over Feyenoord’s Quinten Timber, a player also much appreciated by Slot, however, there is a lot of competition for his services with strong interest from several Italian and German clubs.

The Anfield-based outfit have asked for information about the possible costs of the operation for Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, though Newcastle, AC Milan and Man Utd are in that particular race so Liverpool are unlikely to get everything their own way.
