Ex-Liverpool gaffer Jürgen Klopp is enjoying his sabbatical away from football after leaving Anfield last month.
Klopp decided to walk away from Liverpool after nine, exhausting years in charge of the Reds, and his goodbye on the final day of the season was an emotional affair.
Klopp is now back in his native Germany ahead of Euro 2024, where he will be attending as a spectator. He was in Munich for the hosts’ tournament opener against Scotland on Friday night, in which Germany demolished Andy Robertson’s side 5-1.
Klopp was out and about in Munich and looking on as fans congregated in the city. Klopp posted on his Instagram account: “Excited for tonight! Good luck @dfb_team!”
On Sunday evening, Klopp took to Instagram again to give an update on what he’s been doing since. The 57-year-old posted a picture catching up with old friends in tennis legend Boris Becker and former Huddersfield and Norwich boss David Wagner.
Klopp added the caption “Three legends and I! Was great to catch up with old friends.”
Klopp and Wagner are very close friends having played together at Mainz in the 1990s. Wagner served as the best man when Klopp got married in 2005. Wagner was manager of Norwich for 18 months, but was sacked several days after Norwich was soundly beaten by Leeds in The Championship playoff semi final 4-0.
Klopp had been linked with the Germany national team in the aftermath of his Liverpool announcement. Moreover, with current German coach Julian Nagelsmann’s contract set to expire after the tournament, the feeling was that Klopp could take over after Euro 2024 (via The Daily Star).
However the former Bayern Munich coach signed an extension, keeping him in the job until after the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Klopp hasn’t given anything away publicly as to where his next job in football may be, but he did rule out ever coaching another team in the Premier League in the months before his departure from Liverpool.
