Liverpool reportedly show interest in Brazilian shot stopper Bento

Recent reports have indicated Liverpool are interested in Brazilian shot-stopper Bento this summer transfer window.

It is set to be a busy summer for Liverpool as they look to give Arne Slot the tools he needs to succeed in the 2024/25.

The Dutchman may be without plenty of senior players for pre-season in the USA this summer.

But it seems reports from Brazil may be linking Liverpool to their first transfer this summer.

Goalkeeper Bento made his first-team debut in 2020 during a COVID-19 crisis that sidelined the Athletico Paranaense primary goalkeepers.

Since then, Bento has steadily cemented his position as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, accumulating over 100 appearances across all competitions.

Liverpool’s interest is according to Brazilian outlet Globo, who report that other teams are also examining the prospect of signing the 25-year-old.

Bento is said to have drawn interest from Sporting and Benfica of Portugal, Liverpool, and other Premier League teams.

Bento stands at 190 cm and is known for his excellent shot-stopping abilities, composure under pressure, and proficiency with the ball at his feet.

His playing style is often compared to top Brazilian goalkeepers like Alisson and Ederson, particularly in his sweeping abilities and distribution skills.

Bento has been integral to Athletico Paranaense’s recent successes. He played a pivotal role in their Copa Sudamericana triumph in 2021.

Internationally, Bento made his debut for the Brazil national team in March 2024 and has since earned two caps, including a clean sheet against England at Wembley this year.

Globo have reported that Inter Milan were attempting to acquire Bento recently.

The Serie A champions were only willing to pay €15 million, and this fee was rejected by the Brazil club for being too low.

Inter then made the decision to buy Josep Matinez for the €15 million and they are now not in contention for Bento.

Nobody at Athletico challenged Internazionale’s advancements in the goalkeeper negotiations and it was also Bento’s childhood dream was to play for the Italian giants.

As a result of the failed negotiations with Inter, Athletico and the player’s entourage will now consider further suggestions in light of the updated situation.

Bento will stay with the Hurricane beyond the Copa America if no bid comes in at the club’s asking price – which seems well north of €15 million.

It then looks like Liverpool are continuing to monitor the market in the event that Caoimhin Kelleher departs the club – with the Ireland international hinting as much in recent interviews.
