Liverpool will keep an eye on the international football scene this summer for several reasons.
The Reds are not back in action until later this month when pre-season will begin. New head coach Arne Slot will be busy looking ahead to his first campaign in charge following Jurgen Klopp’s exit from the Anfield dugout.
Slot will take charge of pre-season training in Kirkby later this month when the Liverpool squad gradually begins returning. Some players have been enjoying a summer break while others have been on international duty either at Euro 2024 or Copa America.
Darwin Nunez is one player who is currently in action for his country, with Uruguay impressing at Copa America. The Liverpool striker has scored two goals in the first two group games of the competition.
However, Otte is currently with the United States national team at the Copa America. Their final group match is against Uruguay on Monday night, where Nunez will be hoping to score once again for his country in the competition.
Victory for Uruguay could knock the USA out of the competition. The United States are second in the group on three points but are level with third-placed Panama who face Bolivia at the same time.
Should Panama get a point against Bolivia and Uruguay get another victory, then the USA will be eliminated from the Copa America. This would mean that Otte would then be free to take on his role at Liverpool, with pre-season set to get underway at the AXA Training Centre later this month.
