Former Everton and Manchester United player believes he can persuade Jürgen Klopp to return to management

Immediate past Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly been linked with a return to coaching, this time with the United States national team.

As the Copa America unfolds in the US, the USMNT aimed to showcase their strength ahead of co-hosting the 2026 World Cup alongside Mexico and Canada.

However, the tournament has been a source of disappointment for the team.

Despite starting with a promising 2-0 victory over Bolivia, they subsequently suffered a 2-1 defeat to Panama and a 1-0 loss to Uruguay, finishing third in their group and failing to advance.

Following the defeat to Uruguay, coach Gregg Berhalter has faced significant criticism for the team’s performances in the Copa America, with many fans calling for his dismissal.

Former Everton and Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard believes he can persuade Jurgen Klopp to consider coaching the US national team.

Klopp recently departed as Liverpool manager after nine years, citing fatigue as a primary reason.

He intends to take a year-long break from coaching but has already been linked with various club and international positions.

Howard, who spent a decade at Everton, is eager to personally extend an invitation to Klopp, even offering to visit Klopp at his new holiday residence in Majorca to discuss the opportunity before next summer’s World Cup.

He writes in the Daily Mail: “I am willing to help my country in any way I can. Proud to serve. So if I was in charge of US Soccer right now, I’d be on my way to the airport.

“Why? Because I believe I could make a very compelling argument to Jurgen Klopp to take over the US Men’s National Team.

“After the disappointment of Copa America, after the United States lost to Uruguay and exited at the group stages, I will personally fly to Spain. I mean it.

“I know Klopp has only been retired a few weeks and I know he wants a break.

“But if we sat around his villa in Spain, I think I could lure him over here. 100 percent.

“The money is certainly there. So my pitch would be simple: he has a young group of players who can play progressive, front-foot soccer – exactly like his Liverpool teams.

“And in two years’ time he can go to the biggest World Cup in history.”
