LeBron James and Team USA were in charge of business on Sunday as they defeated Nikola Jokic and Serbia, 110-84, in their Paris Olympics opener.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ star led the way for the Americans with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting, to go along with seven rebounds and nine assists.
It was all in a day’s work for the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
As it turns out, however, even LeBron himself is not immune to the pressure of the bright lights in the Olympics. According to the 20-time All-Star, he suffered through some pre-game jitters ahead of Sunday’s opening tip.
“I definitely got a little nervous,” he admitted.
“My stomach, the butterflies came out.”
For one of the greatest to ever do it to come out with this type of confession speaks volumes of the magnitude of the Olympics. As they say, it does not get any bigger than this.
As always, though, James powered through anxiety as he led Team USA to a crucial victory in their opening game.
More of the same will be expected of The King the rest of the way.
