Former Boston Celtics All-Star and MVP candidate Isaiah Thomas went on X today and said he believes Jayson Tatum will win MVP this upcoming season.
This comes after Team USA won the gold medal for basketball in the Olympics against France, and Tatum only played 11 minutes and scored two points, got three rebounds and a steal.
Tatum has barely gotten any minutes this Olympics, and has sat in multiple games. Tatum has proven to be a great Olympian last Olympics, where he averaged the second-most points on the team, but it seems the new coaching staff would rather play others.
Tatum was also a NBA champion this past season, and has been an Eastern Conference MVP and first team All-NBA for the past three years.
Thomas in his tweet said firmly that Tatum will be the MVP next year, and people should watch. Fans were divided in the comments of the tweet, with some saying it was laughable to consider him to be a MVP candidate, while others believed he definitely could be, as long as he changed up his playing style.
One fan tried to defend the USA rotation and that Tatum didn’t really fit in, to which Thomas responded saying it will only motivate Tatum more to prove himself to be the best.
The answer to this question will be found out when the NBA starts up again in October, and here’s hoping Tatum is picked as the best player in the league.
