Leicester City have been advised to “suck it up” by former Everton Chief Keith Wyness, in response to rumors that they may lose two points in the 2024–25 season.
The 66-year-old, who runs a football consultancy advising elite teams after serving as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, stated the Foxes are unlikely to succeed in any appeals against the fines in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
The Sun reported on Saturday (17 August) that Leicester are facing two separate points deductions for breaking spending rules in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.
The Midlands club were originally charged in March and responded to the charges by launching a legal challenge against the Premier League.
On the pitch, Leicester have returned to the Premier League after winning last season’s Championship title.
Wyness suggested the Foxes will be hit with the punishment in the middle of this season.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast:
“This will come out this season, it’ll be similar to the timetable Everton had last term.
“It’ll probably come right in the middle of what will be a relegation battle for Leicester.
“I’ve mentioned Steve Cooper is the right person to handle this kind of situation, but I don’t think the club have helped themselves with the way they’ve been aggressive in reaction to these charges.
“This may go against them in any appeal because they’ve been quite outspoken, and I don’t expect them to win any appeal.
“If it is to be two deductions, they’re going to have to just suck it up.
“They’ve got to make a quick start and keep going strong to make up for that in the future.”
