The Seattle Seahawks suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Detroit Lions 42-29, with Jared Goff delivering an impressive performance. Goff completed all 18 of his pass attempts, setting a record for the most completions in an NFL game without an incompletion, and tossed two touchdown passes. He also achieved a personal milestone by scoring his first career touchdown as a receiver.
Goff reflected on his achievement, telling ESPN, “It’s good when the ball doesn’t hit the ground.” He admitted that he was unaware of the record during the game and couldn’t remember any incomplete passes, though he sensed he had a good chance to set it.
Both teams now hold a 3-1 record for the season. For the Seahawks, quarterback Geno Smith had a standout game, racking up 395 passing yards and completing 38 of 56 attempts—both career highs. He threw one touchdown pass but also had one interception, contributing to the team’s struggles.
At Ford Field, the Lions built a solid lead by halftime, going up 21-7 thanks to two touchdowns from Jahmyr Gibbs and one from David Montgomery. The Seahawks made a push to close the gap but fell behind again when Goff connected with Jameson Williams for a 70-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 35-20 as they entered the final quarter.
The Seahawks responded with a 21-yard touchdown run from Kenneth Walker III, narrowing the score early in the fourth quarter. However, Goff quickly answered by finding Amon-Ra St. Brown in the end zone, effectively securing the victory for Detroit.
With this result, the Lions remain in second place in the NFC North, trailing the unbeaten Minnesota Vikings. Despite the loss, the Seahawks maintain their position at the top of the NFC West.
